Product description – 1-(3,5,5,6,8,8-hexamethyl-6,7-dihydronaphthalen-2-yl) ethenone having CAS numbers of 21145-77-7 and 1506-02 and chemical formula as C18H26O. The molecular weight of the product under consideration is 258.40 g/mol. The product is sold under various brand names including Tonalide, Tonalid, Muscofix, Ganolid, Fixolide, AHTN, Musk AHMT, Ultramusk, Lanolid, Musk Tetralin, Dernalide, Methyl Nonyl Acetophenone, Kevolid, Tentarome, Tetralide.

Uses – It is primarily used as a base note fixative and volume enhancer. The end-use application includes masculine fragrances, powdery-musked base blends, layering with other PCM’s or nitromusks and functional perfumery like fabric softeners, deodorants and soaps.

Injury period – 2022-23, 2023-24, 2024-25 and the period of investigationFacts of the present case – The present application was filed by the sole producer of the like article in India. The applicant is seeking redressal against intense dumping from China and consequent material injury caused to the domestic industry. The applicant has submitted that the volume of cheap imports from the subject country has increased in absolute and relative terms, despite significant domestic capacities in the country. As a result, the market share of domestic industry declined while that of the subject imports increased. Further, the declining landed price of the subject imports forced the domestic industry to reduce its prices below costs which adversely impacted the profitability of the domestic industry and it suffered losses and cash losses. The domestic industry was not able to earn sufficient returns on the investments made and it earned negative returns on its capital employed. Accordingly, the Authority, having been prima facie satisfied by the information provided, found it appropriate to initiate the investigation to examine dumping, injury and causal link, into the imports of aforesaid product under consideration from the subject country vide Notification No. F. No. 6/14/2026-DGTR.
